In brief: Gen II Fund Services has moved Director Raul Ramos from Jersey to Guernsey to head up its private equity fund services operation there. Ramos brings more than 20 years of experience in fund services, accounting and audit, including over a decade working with funds in the Channel Islands. The move reflects Gen II’s stated ambition to deepen its presence across both islands.
A familiar Face Crosses the Water
Gen II Fund Services has announced the relocation of Director Raul Ramos from Jersey to Guernsey, where he will take on the role of Head of Private Equity Fund Services, Channel Eye reports. It is the kind of move that might seem unremarkable on paper, but in the tightly knit world of Channel Islands fund administration, shifting an experienced senior director between jurisdictions carries real strategic weight.
Ramos has spent more than a decade working with fund managers in Jersey, giving him a depth of local knowledge that Gen II is now deploying across the water. He has been a Director at Gen II since 2022, having joined following the firm’s acquisition of Crestbridge, where he had held the role of Director, Funds. Before Crestbridge, he spent more than six years with Intertrust Group, progressing from financial accounting roles to Associate Director. His career began with SGV and Co. in the Philippines, followed by almost six years with Ernst and Young.
What Gen II Says
Michael Johnson, Chief Commercial Officer at Gen II Fund Services, was characteristically upbeat about the appointment. “Raul is a highly experienced fund services professional who already knows Gen II, our clients and the Channel Islands extremely well,” he said. “Bringing that experience into our Guernsey business is a natural next step as we continue to develop the team supporting managers in the jurisdiction.”
Johnson added that the firm wants clients to benefit from the depth of expertise it holds across both islands, as well as the capabilities of the wider Gen II business. “Raul’s move strengthens that connection between Jersey and Guernsey and adds another experienced senior practitioner to the team on the ground,” he said.
Ramos himself struck a measured but forward-looking tone. “Having spent more than a decade working with fund managers in Jersey, I am looking forward to bringing that experience to Guernsey at an important point in Gen II’s development here,” he said.
Why This Matters for Jersey’s Finance Industry
For Jersey readers, the story is a reminder of the fluid, interconnected nature of the Channel Islands’ financial services sector. Talent and expertise move between the two jurisdictions regularly, and firms with a footprint in both are increasingly looking to present a joined-up offering to international clients, particularly in private equity, where the Channel Islands compete hard for business against Luxembourg, Dublin and Cayman.
Gen II’s decision to strengthen its Guernsey team by drawing on Jersey-based talent, rather than hiring externally, also says something about the quality of the professional pool that has developed in Jersey over the past decade. Ramos’s career trajectory, from a Big Four audit background through senior roles at Intertrust and Crestbridge to a directorship at one of the larger independent fund administrators, is a fairly typical example of how careers in this sector are built in the islands.
Whether Jersey loses anything meaningful by this relocation is a fair question. Gen II retains its Jersey operation, and the firm’s language suggests this is about building bridges rather than shifting resources away. Still, in a sector where senior relationships matter enormously, the departure of an experienced director is always worth noting.
