In brief: Jersey-based trust administration support provider Alfa has appointed James Wiseman as its new Funds Lead. Wiseman brings more than 30 years of experience across fiduciary, funds and corporate services in multiple jurisdictions, and will spearhead Alfa’s expansion into supporting fund services businesses.
A Seasoned Hand for a Growing Business
Alfa, the Jersey-based trust administration support provider, has made a significant hire with the appointment of James Wiseman as Funds Lead, Channel Eye reports. Wiseman’s career spans more than three decades and takes in some of the world’s most prominent financial centres, including Jersey, Guernsey, Luxembourg, Singapore and Southeast Asia.
He began his career in Jersey before moving into senior leadership roles with international organisations. Most notably, he spent almost 12 years with Citco, during which time he led operations in Singapore and Manila before taking responsibility for a team in Luxembourg. He subsequently founded a funds and corporate services start-up in Singapore and went on to serve as Group Managing Director of a family-owned fiduciary services business.
Wiseman holds a BA (Hons), is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) and is a member of the Association of International Accountants (AIA).
Expanding Into Fund Services
The appointment marks a strategic step for Alfa. In his new role, Wiseman will lead the firm’s move into supporting fund services businesses, a new area of activity that sits alongside its existing trust company administration work. He will oversee service delivery and provide senior-level support to clients.
Michael Alfano, Founder of Alfa, was clear about what the hire means for the business. “We are delighted to welcome James to the team,” he said. “He has spent his career leading teams and navigating exactly the kind of growth and change our clients are dealing with every day. His experience, combined with his pragmatic, hands-on approach, makes him a great fit for a business built on giving firms a reliable, senior pair of hands when they need it most.”
Alfano added that the appointment is “a significant step for Alfa, allowing us to support fund services businesses for the first time alongside the trust companies we already work with.”
What This Means for Jersey’s Finance Industry
Jersey’s finance sector remains one of the island’s most important economic pillars, and the funds industry in particular continues to attract international talent and investment. An appointment of this calibre, drawing on experience from Luxembourg and Southeast Asia as well as the Channel Islands, reflects the genuinely global nature of the work being done from this small island in the English Channel.
For Jersey-based fund services businesses, the arrival of a provider with dedicated senior-level support could prove a practical asset, particularly for smaller or growing firms that need experienced oversight without the overhead of a full-time executive hire.
