In brief: Jersey law firm Baker & Partners has climbed from Band 2 to Band 1 for Offshore Dispute Resolution in the Chambers and Partners UK 2027 guide. Six of the firm’s lawyers are individually recognised, and Global Managing Partner Stephen Baker retains his Eminent Practitioner status.

A Step Up to the Top Table

For any law firm operating in the competitive world of offshore litigation, a Band 1 ranking from Chambers and Partners is about as close to a gold star as the legal profession gets. Channel Eye reports that Baker & Partners, Jersey’s specialist litigation and dispute resolution firm, has secured exactly that, moving up from Band 2 in the previous year’s guide to claim the top spot for Offshore Dispute Resolution in the Chambers UK 2027 edition.

The firm advises a broad range of clients, including private individuals, companies, government bodies and regulators, on complex legal disputes. In a jurisdiction like Jersey, where the finance industry is central to the economy and cross-border disputes are a regular feature of commercial life, having a top-ranked independent litigation firm is no small matter.

The Lawyers Behind the Ranking

The guide recognises six of the firm’s lawyers individually. William Redgrave retains his Band 1 ranking, while Simon Thomas remains in Band 2. Lynne Gregory and Jared Dann both hold their Band 3 rankings. Amy Benest earns a notable promotion, moving up to Band 3 having entered the rankings as Up and Coming only the previous year, a swift ascent by any measure.

Global Managing Partner Stephen Baker maintains his Eminent Practitioner ranking, a designation reserved for lawyers regarded as leading figures in their field. Baker commented: “Demand for conflict-free, high-quality legal representation continues to grow. This ranking recognises the importance of independence and the work of a team handling some of the most interesting and significant cases to involve Jersey.”

What Clients Say

Chambers rankings are informed by interviews with clients, and the feedback published in the guide speaks well of the firm’s approach. One client said: “The principal strength of Baker & Partners lies in their ability to combine deep technical legal expertise with a highly pragmatic approach to complex and sensitive matters.” Another noted: “They are not only excellent lawyers but they make a real effort to learn about the client’s business and provide business-savvy advice.”

That combination of technical rigour and commercial awareness is precisely what clients in complex offshore disputes tend to need. Jersey’s position as an international finance centre means the island regularly features in high-value, multi-jurisdictional cases, and the quality of its legal profession is a genuine part of its competitive offering to the world.
