In brief: Jersey singer-songwriter Rich Allo is launching his debut album, Letters From A Heart Attack, with a live concert at Luma Cafe in St Helier this Friday. The ten-track record promises big choruses, powerful vocals and personal storytelling, performed live for the very first time.
From Weekender to Album Launch
Rich Allo is no stranger to Jersey’s live music scene. Bailiwick Express reports that the singer-songwriter has performed solo at some of the island’s most beloved venues, including The Blue Note and The Cornerhouse, as well as at major events such as Weekender, Battle of Flowers and Channel Islands Pride. That is a respectable circuit for any local artist, and it suggests Allo has been quietly building a following while the rest of us were arguing about bus routes.
Now he is ready to take the next step. His debut album, Letters From A Heart Attack, is set to receive its live premiere at Luma Cafe in St Helier on Friday evening, with the show starting at 8pm. Allo himself is promising “huge choruses, loud vocals, stories, and a few surprises” across the ten new songs, which he describes as having been “poured straight out of” his heart. Whether that is a metaphor or a medical update, the album title suggests it is at least partly both.
A New Stage for Luma Cafe
The choice of venue is itself a small story worth noting. Luma Cafe was granted a Bailiff’s Annual Entertainment Permit in July, allowing it to host solo performers, musicians and DJs. Friday’s album launch will be among the early fruits of that approval, giving the St Helier spot a chance to establish itself as a genuine live music destination rather than simply a place to enjoy smash burgers and chicken wings, though those remain firmly on the menu.
Bailiwick Express notes that Luma will be serving its usual food offering on the night, including hot dogs, totchos, burritos and chicken wings, alongside a new selection of Irish specialities. Vegetarian and vegan options are also available, so there is no excuse for anyone to stay home.
Supporting Local Talent
Jersey has a lively but sometimes underappreciated music scene, and album launches of this kind are a reminder of the creative talent the island produces. For an independent artist, releasing a debut album is no small undertaking, and doing so with a live performance adds an extra layer of ambition. Allo’s track record at high-profile island events suggests he is well prepared for the occasion.
Those interested in the album can pre-save it ahead of the Friday night show, details of which are available through Bailiwick Express’s coverage.
