In brief: Jersey Post and Guernsey Post have published their recommended last posting dates for Christmas 2026. Islanders sending to the UK have until mid-December, but post heading to Europe and the rest of the world must leave considerably earlier.
Jersey Post: key dates to know
If you are posting from Jersey this Christmas, the BBC reports that Jersey Post has set out a clear schedule, and the window is shorter than many people expect.
For post heading to the UK and Isle of Man, the last recommended date depends on the service used. Tracked and signed items can be sent as late as 15 December, while non-tracked post needs to be in the system by 11 December. That is a four-day difference that could easily catch people out if they assume all services are equal.
For inter-island post, Jersey residents sending letters and cards to Guernsey should aim for 21 December, with tracked and signed parcels sharing the same deadline. Non-tracked parcels to Guernsey should go a little earlier, by 18 December.
For post staying within Jersey itself, letters should be sent by 22 December, as should parcels. Jersey Post has also confirmed that collections will be made from the Broad Street and Rue des Pres post boxes on 23 December at 18:00 GMT, offering a small last-minute lifeline for local deliveries.
Anyone sending further afield faces much tighter deadlines. Post to European destinations from Jersey carries a recommended last date of 26 November, and for the rest of the world the cut-off is 24 November. In other words, if you have family or friends outside Europe, the clock is already ticking.
Guernsey Post: dates for the sister island
Guernsey Post has set slightly different dates for its residents. Letters to the UK can be sent up to 17 December, or 18 December if using special delivery. Parcels heading to the UK, Jersey and the Isle of Man should be posted by 14 December.
Special deliveries to the UK can be made up to 18 December, and to Jersey and the Isle of Man up to 16 December. However, post requiring UK customs clearance must be sent by 30 November, a detail worth noting for anyone sending goods rather than personal correspondence.
For post within Guernsey itself, the last recommended date is 22 December for both letters and parcels. Those sending to Sark have until 16 December, while Alderney residents face a 14 December deadline for parcels and 18 December for letters.
Why these dates matter
The Channel Islands’ position outside the UK mainland means that post does not simply travel by road overnight. Every item crossing to the UK or Europe goes via air or sea freight, and at Christmas those services operate under considerable pressure. Missing the recommended dates does not guarantee failure, but it does mean relying on goodwill and spare capacity that may simply not exist in the final days before the 25th.
The customs clearance deadline of 30 November for Guernsey Post is a particular reminder that the islands sit outside the UK customs territory. Anything that looks like a commercial shipment, or that requires a customs declaration, needs to move early.
