Jersey rates

What you pay in rates depends on two things: the rateable value of your home, measured in quarters, and the rate per quarter set by your parish, plus the Island-wide Rate. Work out your bill, then see how every parish compares.

Rates for 2026. Rateable values from the parish Rates Lists as they stood in late April 2026.

An owner who lives in the home pays both the owner’s (foncier) and the occupier’s rate on the full rateable value. A landlord of a furnished let is liable for the occupier’s rate too, though it can be recovered from the tenant. Your rate demand from the parish is the final word.

Rates in each parish

Each parish sets its own rate per quarter at its Parish Assembly, to cover its spending. Every ratepayer also pays the Island-wide Rate, 0.96p a quarter for homes and 1.41p for business premises, which the parishes pass to the States.

What a typical home pays in each parish

Homes are bigger and rateable values higher in the country parishes, so a typical bill reflects both the parish rate and the homes in the parish. The middle home in St Mary pays £698 a year; in St Helier it pays £344.

About these figures

Rateable values are NSFW’s analysis of the parish Rates Lists, which the Rates (Jersey) Law 2005 requires every parish to publish each year: 53,118 assessments as they stood on 24 to 26 April 2026, when some parishes had not yet published their 2026 lists. The 793 assessments with no rateable value are left out. No individual property is shown.

Parish rates and the Island-wide Rate are as published by the parishes and in the States Assembly report on Island-wide Rate figures for 2026. Typical rateable values by type of home come from A guide to the assessment of Parish Rates in Jersey (Comité des Connétables, June 2025). Types of home and tenure are from the 2021 Census (Statistics Jersey, Open Government Licence – Jersey).
