CI Coop rebrands De Gruchy and Argent funeral services

In brief: The Channel Islands Co-op has rebranded its funeral care businesses, De Gruchy and Argent, under unified new identities. A new dedicated website has also launched to help islanders navigate funeral arrangements and support services.

A familiar name, a fresh face

Channel Eye reports that CI Coop has unveiled new branding for its funeral care operations across the Channel Islands. The two established local businesses, previously known simply as De Gruchy and Argent, will now trade as Coop Funeral Care by De Gruchy and Coop Funeral Care by Argent respectively.

The rebrand is designed to bring both businesses under a more consistent identity while, according to CI Coop, preserving the local heritage that each name carries. For many islanders, De Gruchy and Argent are names woven into the fabric of Channel Islands life, and the Co-op appears keen to keep that connection front and centre rather than swallow the brands whole into corporate anonymity.

New website aims to ease a difficult process

Alongside the new branding, CI Coop has launched a dedicated website at coopfuneral.coop, intended as a single destination for islanders seeking information about funeral arrangements, services and bereavement support. Further content and features are expected to be added in the coming months.

David McGrath, Chief Marketing and Membership Officer at CI Coop, said: “We know that arranging a funeral can feel overwhelming, particularly at such a difficult time. As a Cooperative, we want to make finding the information and support people need as straightforward as possible, while never losing the personal, compassionate care that sits at the heart of what our teams do.”

McGrath added that the new brands “bring that personal, local approach to the forefront” and that, together with the website and an upcoming campaign, they will “help more islanders understand who we are, what we offer and, above all, that we are here for them when they need us.”

What it means for islanders

For Jersey residents, the practical upshot is straightforward: the same local teams and services remain in place, but finding information about them should now be easier. Bereavement is rarely a moment when anyone wants to spend time hunting across multiple websites or deciphering which business belongs to which parent organisation. A single, clearly branded online resource is a sensible step.

The Co-op’s cooperative structure also means that, unlike a purely commercial funeral operator, profits are returned to members and the community rather than external shareholders, a point that may matter to islanders weighing their options at a sensitive time.
