In brief: Law firm Appleby has secured 13 firm rankings and 30 individual recognitions in the Chambers UK Guide 2027, with its Jersey and Guernsey teams drawing particular praise from clients. Five Appleby partners achieved the guide’s top Band 1 ranking in their respective practice areas.

A clean sweep across the Crown Dependencies

Appleby, which operates across all three Crown Dependencies, has once again featured prominently in one of the legal profession’s most closely watched annual benchmarks. The Chambers UK Guide 2027, as reported by Bailiwick Express, awarded the firm 13 firm rankings alongside 30 individual recognitions, a result that will raise few eyebrows among those who follow the offshore legal market but will nonetheless be welcome confirmation of the firm’s standing.

Client feedback, which forms a significant part of the Chambers assessment process, was notably warm. Appleby’s teams were described as “innovative and clear”, “solution-orientated and well-informed”, and, perhaps most usefully of all from a client’s perspective, “a pleasure to work with”. In a profession not always celebrated for its bedside manner, that last compliment carries its own quiet weight.

Jersey teams singled out for high praise

Appleby’s Jersey practices received some of the guide’s most emphatic endorsements. The corporate team earned a ringing vote of confidence from one client, who stated: “There isn’t a Jersey transaction I wouldn’t trust the Appleby team to deal with.” That is the sort of testimonial that money cannot buy, though a decent billing rate presumably helps.

The Jersey property team was described as “a pre-eminent commercial real estate law firm in Jersey with great knowledge and experience”, a strong accolade in a jurisdiction where property transactions, particularly at the commercial end, can involve considerable complexity. The dispute resolution team was praised for being “responsive, innovative and clear”, as well as being “able to hold its own on big international trust disputes”, a reference to the cross-border trust litigation that regularly flows through Jersey’s courts.

Guernsey recognition rounds out a strong set of results

Across the water in Guernsey, Appleby’s corporate team was credited with “excellent technical knowledge and superb depth and breadth”. The dispute resolution team’s “pragmatic” and “outside-the-box” thinking was highlighted, while the employment team was recognised for being “responsive and professional in their approach, particularly when dealing with sensitive matters”, alongside “strong technical knowledge”. That combination of sensitivity and technical rigour is precisely what clients need when employment disputes arise in smaller, close-knit professional communities.

At the individual level, five Appleby partners were ranked Band 1 in their practice areas, the guide’s highest individual designation, underlining that the firm’s collective strength is matched by recognisable individual expertise.
