JTC appoints dedicated AI chief as part of major tech push

In brief: Jersey-headquartered trust and fund services group JTC has made two senior leadership appointments in technology and artificial intelligence. Dr Shivaji Dasgupta joins as Chief Technology and AI Officer, while long-serving executive Adam Jeffries moves into the newly created role of Chief Transformation Officer.

A New AI Architect at the Helm

Channel Eye reports that Dr Shivaji Dasgupta has been appointed to lead JTC’s technology and AI strategy, with a specific mandate to accelerate what the company describes as the “responsible adoption” of AI across the business. He will oversee a Tech-AI function built around seven pillars of responsibility, designed to help the group identify, implement and scale data and AI-driven transformation.

Dasgupta brings more than 15 years of experience at the intersection of technology, data, cloud and AI, with senior roles previously held at UniCredit, Deutsche Bank and McKinsey. His expertise centres on enterprise data platforms, technology modernisation and, notably, scaling AI in regulated environments, a skill set that will be particularly relevant given the compliance-heavy world of trust and fund administration in which JTC operates.

In his own words, Dasgupta said he is “excited to be at JTC at a time when technology and AI are reshaping how businesses operate and create value,” adding that his aim is to “embed them in practical, responsible ways that empower our people, support client needs and enhance the client experience.”

A Trusted Hand Moves to Transformation

Adam Jeffries, formerly JTC’s Group Chief Information Officer, transitions into the role of Chief Transformation Officer. Jeffries joined JTC back in 2013 and brings more than three decades of financial services technology experience to the position. His new brief is a broad one: acting as a trusted adviser to the Board and senior leadership teams across JTC’s divisions and jurisdictions, ensuring that transformation initiatives support growth plans with what the company calls “the right balance of operational practicality and technology enablement.”

JTC Chief Executive Nigel Le Quesne said that Jeffries’ “considerable experience in technology, operational change and strategic delivery along with his deep understanding of JTC’s people, culture and business model will be critical in steering us through a period of transformation and growth.”

Jeffries himself described the moment as “a pivotal stage in JTC’s growth journey,” expressing his intention to turn “strategic ambitions into meaningful, practical and lasting transformation.”

What This Means for Jersey’s Finance Industry

JTC is one of Jersey’s most prominent financial services groups, and appointments at this level are a useful barometer of where the industry is heading. The dual hire signals that JTC is making a serious, structured bet on AI and digital transformation, not as a bolt-on experiment but as a core strategic priority with dedicated C-suite leadership.

For Jersey’s finance industry more broadly, this is worth watching. The island’s competitive position as a leading international finance centre depends in no small part on its ability to keep pace with technological change. Regulated environments have historically been cautious adopters of AI, understandably so, but the appointment of someone with Dasgupta’s specific background in scaling AI within regulated settings suggests JTC intends to move purposefully rather than tentatively.

The creation of a standalone Chief Transformation Officer role also reflects a growing recognition across financial services that technology change and business transformation are not the same thing, and that bridging the two requires dedicated, senior-level attention. Jeffries’ long institutional knowledge of JTC makes him a logical choice for exactly that kind of connective tissue role.
