In brief: Jersey Bulls thrashed third-placed Raynes Park Vale 5-1 at Springfield Stadium on Saturday, extending their unbeaten league run to 30 matches. The result strengthens the Bulls’ grip on second place in the Isthmian South Central Division.
Bulls Put on a Show at Springfield
If you were looking for a statement afternoon of football in Jersey, Springfield Stadium on Saturday was the place to be. The Jersey Evening Post reports that Jersey Bulls dismantled third-placed Raynes Park Vale with a commanding 5-1 victory, a result that underlines just how formidable this side has become in the Isthmian South Central Division.
The Bulls raced into a three-goal lead by half-time, leaving their visitors with an enormous mountain to climb before the break had even arrived. Manager Elliot Powell was afforded the luxury of rotating his squad as the afternoon wore on, with the outcome settled long before the final whistle. That is the kind of afternoon every manager dreams of.
How the Goals Came
The scoring began in the 12th minute when Jamie Watling opened his account, smashing home with his left foot after a clean short corner routine. Toby Ritzema provided the deft flick from Sammy Henia-Kamau’s delivery, teeing up Watling for an emphatic finish.
Henia-Kamau then got on the scoresheet himself in the 23rd minute, slotting home after James Sunley played an excellent through ball into his path. The third, arriving just before half-time, was arguably the pick of the bunch. Ritzema surged forward from the edge of his own penalty area, surpassing the entire Raynes Park defensive unit before setting up Lorne Bickley with an open goal to finish.
The second half brought more of the same. Sunley made it four just six minutes after the restart, meeting Henia-Kamau’s left-footed cross with a clever header into the far corner. Substitute Darryl Mvalo then added a fifth in the 62nd minute, turning neatly before firing into the top-right corner to cap another flowing Bulls move.
Raynes Park Vale did pull one back through Shamal Edwards in the 74th minute, the forward producing an excellent first touch from a long ball before finishing well. It was a consolation goal in every sense of the word, doing little to dampen what was a thoroughly dominant home performance.
Thirty and Counting
The victory marks the Bulls’ 30th match without a defeat in league football, a remarkable run that speaks to the consistency and quality Powell has built into this squad. Having endured a demanding run of away fixtures in the lead-up to this match, the Bulls were reportedly relishing a return to Springfield, and they delivered in emphatic fashion when second place hosted third.
The win not only consolidates their position in the table but sends a clear message to the rest of the division about what this side is capable of when firing on all cylinders.
