Elizabeth Harbour café opens to non-travellers this winter

A quiet weekday morning at Elizabeth Harbour, Jersey, Channel Islands.

In brief: The Shipyard café at Elizabeth Harbour is reopening to non-travellers this winter, following strong demand from islanders. It will be open Monday to Friday, 8am to 1pm, from 8 October, before returning to travellers only from April 2027.

A Harbour View for Everyone

If you have ever driven past Elizabeth Harbour and thought the café looked rather appealing from the outside, good news: you no longer need a boarding pass to get in. The Shipyard, the café situated at Elizabeth Harbour, is opening its doors to non-travellers this winter after what Bailiwick Express describes as considerable demand from customers.

The café will welcome islanders Monday to Friday from 8am until 1pm. On offer are grab-and-go pastries and rolls from Dandy, a selection of hot and cold drinks, and a children’s play area for those who need to keep smaller companions occupied while they enjoy the harbour views.

Harbour Master Welcomes Islanders Back

Harbour Master Captain William Sadler was clearly pleased to be making the announcement. “We’ve had lots of people asking when The Shipyard would be open to those not travelling, so we’re delighted to be bringing it back this winter,” he said. “It’s more than just a café. It’s somewhere to meet friends, enjoy the harbour views, grab a coffee and cake, and let the children enjoy the play area while you relax. We look forward to welcoming both islanders and visitors through the doors.”

The opening runs from 8 October, giving islanders a welcome spot to while away a weekday morning through the colder months. The arrangement is, however, temporary: from April 2027, The Shipyard will return to serving exclusively those travelling through the harbour.

A Seasonal Opportunity

For a small island that can feel like it is battening down the hatches once the tourist season ends, a new weekday morning destination with harbour views is a modest but genuinely welcome addition to the winter social calendar. The combination of a children’s play area and quality pastries from a local supplier suggests the café is pitching itself squarely at parents, remote workers, and anyone who simply fancies a decent coffee somewhere with a view rather than a car park.

The weekday-only, morning-only hours do mean it will not suit everyone, but for those whose schedules allow, it fills a gap that islanders have clearly been vocal about wanting filled.
