# Jersey parents have until 23 November to secure a school place

**In brief:** Applications for Reception places at government non-fee-paying primary schools in Jersey open on Wednesday 4 November, for children due to start school in September 2027. Parents have until 23 November to return completed forms, with place offers following at the end of January 2027.

## Who needs to apply, and when

Bailiwick Express reports that the application window covers children born between 1 September 2022 and 31 August 2023, the cohort due to begin Reception in autumn 2027. Schools will be sending application forms to parents from Wednesday, and completed forms must be returned to the relevant catchment school by **Monday 23 November**.

Letters offering places will then go out to parents and carers at the **end of January 2027**. Families who receive an offer but no longer need it are asked to inform the school at that point, freeing up places for others.

## Fee-paying schools and catchment areas

One point worth noting: children who have already been accepted for a place at a fee-charging school will **not** be offered a place at a government non-fee-paying primary school. According to the admissions notice, this policy exists to give families who genuinely need a non-fee-paying place “the best chance of getting a place at their chosen school.” It is a straightforward and sensible measure to prevent places being held unnecessarily.

Parents who are unsure which catchment area they live in have several options. They can check the government’s online map, contact their local primary school directly, or get in touch with the Children, Young People, Education and Skills department. The department can be reached by phone on **01534 445504** or by email at **schooladmissions@gov.je**. Further information on how primary school places are allocated is also available on the government website.

## The NSFW Perspective

There is nothing especially controversial about a school admissions round opening, but it is one of those quietly important moments in family life that can catch parents off guard if they miss the deadline. Three weeks is not a long window, so if you have a child born in that September 2022 to August 2023 bracket, now is the time to dig the form out from wherever the school sent it. Missing the 23 November deadline is the kind of administrative mishap that tends to be remembered for years, usually at birthday parties.
