# From toddlers to techno: Jersey’s Halloween weekend guide

**In brief:** Jersey is spoilt for choice this Halloween weekend, with live bands, a headline DJ, late-night dancing and a family show all vying for your attention. Whether you fancy dressing up or just watching others make fools of themselves, there is something on for every age group across the island.

## Bands, beats and bats at St James’ and the Royal Yacht

If you like your Halloween with a live soundtrack, St James’ Wine Bar is the place to be on Saturday 31 October. Four local bands, Without Captain, 88 Bunkface, Claymore and White Violet, are on the bill, with doors opening at 8pm. Four acts in one evening is a generous offering, and the kind of grassroots live music night that keeps Jersey’s music scene ticking over nicely.

For those whose tastes run to something more electronic, Darren Emerson takes over The Drift at the Royal Yacht. Best known for his years with Underworld, Bailiwick Express describes him as “an influential figure in house and techno.” Doors open at 9pm and the night runs until 2am, so there is plenty of time to work up a sweat. The dress code is smart-casual, though guests are equally welcome to lean into the occasion with a Halloween costume. A rare chance to wear a skeleton onesie and still technically be dressed appropriately for a night out.

## The Sundown and a weekend of live music

The Sundown is hosting live music throughout the weekend, with a line-up of headline acts across both nights. Islanders are invited to dress up and join performers and staff who will themselves be in Halloween costume. It promises to be a lively atmosphere, and the combination of live music and fancy dress is a reliable formula for a good evening.

## Family frights with the Dantastic team

Not every Halloween outing needs to end at 2am. The Dantastic team returns with a Halloween show designed for families, promising spooky surprises, music, dancing and laughs for all ages. The interactive show stars Dan Whitley, Ian Weichardt and Lauren Saskia, and costumes are encouraged for audience members too. Tickets are available to purchase online.

It is the kind of event that lets parents tell themselves they are doing something fun for the children, while quietly enjoying it just as much themselves. There is nothing wrong with that.

## The NSFW Perspective

Halloween has evolved considerably from its roots into something that now sustains an entire weekend’s worth of events, from toddler-friendly interactive shows to late-night techno until 2am. Jersey’s offering this year is genuinely varied, which is a credit to the venues and organisers putting it together. Whether you are a parent herding small witches and wizards to the Dantastic show or a seasoned raver dusting off your Underworld playlist ahead of Darren Emerson’s set at the Royal Yacht, the island has you covered. The only real question is whether you can persuade anyone to go as something other than a zombie or a vampire. Good luck with that.
