# Jersey Community Transport seeks volunteer drivers to help isolated islanders

**In brief:** Jersey Community Transport has launched a campaign to recruit volunteer drivers to help islanders who struggle to access transport. The drive was launched at Charing Cross and is open to individuals as well as groups of friends and colleagues. Those interested can apply via the JCT website or by email.

## Getting Islanders Moving

For most of us, jumping in the car and heading wherever we need to go is as unremarkable as making a cup of tea. But for a significant number of islanders, access to suitable transport is the difference between independence and isolation. Jersey Community Transport is hoping to change that, and it needs your help to do it.

The organisation has launched a recruitment campaign aimed at finding volunteer drivers willing to give a little of their time to support fellow islanders with essential and everyday travel. The Jersey Evening Post reports that the campaign is flexible by design: JCT is encouraging not just individuals, but groups of friends and colleagues to get involved, whether that means sparing the occasional hour or committing to a regular schedule.

## The Launch and What It Involves

The recruitment drive got under way at Charing Cross last week, where islanders could drop in to learn more about the volunteer role and pick up information packs, role profiles and application forms. It is a straightforward, practical ask: people who enjoy driving, meeting others and giving something back to the community they live in.

A spokesperson for the campaign put it plainly: *“For many of us, being able to get into a vehicle and travel where we need to go is something we take for granted. For others, access to suitable transport can make an enormous difference to their independence and ability to stay connected with their community.”*

The spokesperson added: *“We are looking for people who would like to put their driving experience and some of their spare time towards something genuinely worthwhile. Volunteering as a driver is a practical way of supporting fellow Islanders and strengthening our community.”*

## How to Get Involved

Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer driver can find out more and apply through the Jersey Community Transport website at **www.jct.org.je**, or by emailing **jane@jct.org.je**. The organisation is looking for people across the island, and no extraordinary commitment is required to make a real difference.

## The NSFW Perspective

There is something quietly admirable about a campaign that asks nothing more of people than a driving licence and a bit of goodwill. In an era when every social problem seems to demand a government taskforce, a six-figure consultant and a lengthy consultation period, Jersey Community Transport is simply asking islanders to look out for one another. That is community in its most honest form, and it costs the taxpayer precisely nothing. If you have a car, a free afternoon and a reasonable tolerance for conversation, this one is worth a look.
