# Healthcare governance expert joins Lloyds Bank Foundation board

**In brief:** Claire White, Director of Governance and Care at Family Nursing and Home Care, has joined the board of the Lloyds Bank Foundation for the Channel Islands as a trustee. She brings more than 25 years of experience in clinical practice, healthcare regulation and strategic leadership to the role.

## A New Voice on the Board

The Lloyds Bank Foundation for the Channel Islands has appointed Claire White to its Board of Trustees, Channel Eye reports. White currently serves as Director of Governance and Care at Family Nursing and Home Care (FNHC), one of Jersey’s most prominent health and social care charities, and is a registered nurse with a career spanning over a quarter of a century.

Her professional background covers clinical practice, healthcare regulation, governance, quality improvement and strategic leadership. She also holds the role of Caldicott Guardian at FNHC, a position that carries specific responsibility for protecting the privacy of patient and service-user information, and is recognised as a mark of serious commitment to accountability and transparency in health and care settings.

Beyond her day job, White is no stranger to public service. She sits on the States of Jersey Complaints Panel and Jersey’s Health and Care Partnership Board, and volunteers as Safeguarding Officer for the Jersey Rugby Club, where she supports the welfare and protection of children and young people involved in the sport. It is, by any measure, a packed schedule.

## What the Foundation Does

The Lloyds Bank Foundation for the Channel Islands funds, supports and champions charities across the Channel Islands that work with people who are socially excluded and disadvantaged. It operates across both Bailiwicks, meaning its reach extends to Guernsey as well as Jersey, and it has positioned itself as a key backer of an increasingly professionalised charitable sector in the islands.

Speaking about her appointment, White said: “Lloyds Bank Foundation plays a vital role in supporting charities and communities across the Channel Islands. Its commitment to helping organisations respond to local needs and create lasting positive impact makes a real difference. I am delighted to be joining the Board and look forward to supporting the Foundation’s work alongside fellow trustees and the team.”

Philippa Stahelin, Chair of the Foundation, welcomed the appointment warmly. “Her appointment strengthens the Board’s collective skills and ensures we continue to have the knowledge and oversight required to support an increasingly professionalised charitable sector,” Stahelin said. “We are delighted that she has chosen to join the Foundation, and we look forward to benefiting from her knowledge, experience, and passion as we continue our work across the Bailiwicks.”

## Why This Matters for Jersey

Appointments like this one tend to fly under the radar, but they matter. The charitable sector in Jersey quietly does an enormous amount of heavy lifting when it comes to supporting vulnerable islanders, often picking up where statutory services leave off. Having trustees with deep, practical experience of health and care governance, rather than simply financial or legal expertise, helps ensure that the organisations receiving Foundation funding are assessed with a clear understanding of the complex environments in which they operate.

White’s background in governance and risk management, combined with her hands-on experience at FNHC and her community roles, suggests the Foundation has made a considered choice. The breadth of her island-wide commitments also means she arrives with an unusually well-rounded picture of how Jersey’s health, care and community landscape actually functions day to day.

## The NSFW Perspective

There is something quietly reassuring about a trustee appointment that reads less like a LinkedIn vanity exercise and more like a genuine attempt to put the right person in the right seat. The Lloyds Bank Foundation has opted for someone who actually knows what it looks like when a charity is struggling to meet demand, rather than someone who merely knows what a balance sheet looks like. In a small island where the same names can sometimes seem to circulate endlessly around the same boardroom tables, a fresh appointment with this range of practical experience is worth noting. Whether the Foundation’s funding decisions become noticeably sharper as a result remains to be seen, but the ingredients are certainly there.
