# Gas leak closes St Saviour’s Hill for up to five days

**In brief:** A gas leak has forced the closure of St Saviour’s Hill, with diversions expected to remain in place for up to five days. Island Energy is carrying out investigation works, and both road traffic and bus services are affected.

## St Saviour’s Hill Closed After Gas Leak

Motorists and commuters across the island are facing a disruptive week after St Saviour’s Hill was closed following a gas leak, with Island Energy confirming that investigation works are now under way in the area. The closure, reported by the Jersey Evening Post, is expected to last around five days, though the company has noted that the timeline could change as investigations progress.

The exact location of the leak, its cause, and the extent of any damage have not yet been confirmed, meaning islanders will need to keep a close eye on updates before planning their routes.

## Diversions in Place in Both Directions

Traffic is being redirected in both directions along the hill. Motorists heading uphill are being diverted via Chasse Brunette, while those travelling downhill are being stopped at Five Oaks and redirected via Bagatelle Road. Island Energy has also noted that traffic travelling via Chasse Brunette will be further redirected along Patier Road and onto Bagatelle Road.

Diversion signs are being put in place, and police are assisting with traffic management to keep things moving as smoothly as possible through what is a well-used corridor connecting St Helier with the eastern parishes.

## Bus Services Also Disrupted

The disruption is not limited to private motorists. LibertyBus has confirmed that route 23 is being diverted via Wellington Hill in both directions for the duration of the works. Passengers relying on that service should allow extra time and check for updates before travelling.

Island Energy’s advice to all road users is straightforward: plan ahead and allow extra time for your journey.

## The NSFW Perspective

A gas leak closing one of the island’s busier arterial routes for up to five days is, to put it mildly, not ideal timing. St Saviour’s Hill is a key link between St Helier and the parishes to the east and north, and anyone who has sat in Jersey traffic will know that even a minor disruption can turn a ten-minute drive into something resembling a philosophical exercise in patience.

To be fair to Island Energy, gas leaks are not exactly something you schedule in advance, and the company has moved promptly to put diversions and police assistance in place. The real test will be how quickly the investigation concludes and whether that five-day estimate holds. In the meantime, perhaps dust off the bicycle, or simply make peace with Bagatelle Road for the week.
