# Three FCJ girls raise £362 for NSPCC with cakes and dog agility

**In brief:** Three Year 5 pupils from FCJ Primary School raised £362 for NSPCC Jersey through a series of community activities at Belvedere Estate. The charity thanked the girls with a tea party and certificates at the Gower Centre in St Helier.

## Baking, obstacle courses and dog agility, all in a good cause

It takes a certain kind of initiative to look at a weekend and think, “I could organise a dog agility course for charity.” But that is precisely what Erin Moore, Amalie Dixon and Millie Bracken, all Year 5 students at FCJ Primary School, did. The trio hosted a series of community activities at Belvedere Estate, baking cakes, setting up an obstacle course for children and running an agility course for dogs. Every penny raised went to NSPCC Jersey, the local arm of the charity that works to prevent child abuse and neglect and operates a free, confidential, round-the-clock helpline for children and anyone concerned about a child’s welfare.

The final tally came to £362, a figure that will have made a meaningful contribution to the charity’s work in the island.

## Proud parents and a well-deserved celebration

The girls’ parents were understandably delighted. “As parents we’re so proud of what the girls have achieved,” they told the Jersey Evening Post. “They came up with the idea and really threw themselves into it. Raising £362 is fantastic, but seeing how excited they’ve been about helping others has made us even prouder.”

NSPCC Jersey responded in kind, inviting the three to the Gower Centre in St Helier for a tea party and presenting them with certificates. Zoe Hotton, the charity’s fundraising and events manager, said the girls’ “enthusiasm, initiative and thoughtfulness were truly inspiring.” She added that the charity was “incredibly impressed by their creativity, determination and willingness to give up their time,” and that the girls “should all be extremely proud of what they achieved.”

## The NSFW Perspective

In a news cycle that can feel relentlessly grim, three young girls deciding to spend their free time baking cakes and herding dogs around an obstacle course for a children’s charity is a genuinely heartening story. Jersey’s community spirit has always been one of its quiet strengths, and it is reassuring to see the next generation picking up that baton with such enthusiasm. NSPCC Jersey’s helpline, it is worth noting, is available around the clock to anyone worried about a child’s welfare, and a little publicity never hurts a cause like that. Well done, Erin, Amalie and Millie.
