# Cyclist left to walk to hospital after St Peter hit and run

**In brief:** A female cyclist was injured after being struck by a car in St Peter on the evening of 30 September. The vehicle, a black Fiat Panda, left the scene without the occupants exchanging details or checking on the cyclist’s welfare. Jersey Police are now appealing for witnesses.

## What Happened in La Vallee de St Pierre

According to Bailiwick Express, the incident took place at around 8pm on 30 September in the area of La Vallee de St Pierre, near the Vic in the Valley pub in St Peter. A female cyclist, who was wearing a high visibility jacket, was struck by a black Fiat Panda.

The vehicle reportedly stopped initially, but then left the scene without the occupants exchanging any details or checking on the welfare of the injured cyclist. Police believe there were five people inside the vehicle at the time.

The cyclist made her own way from the scene, walking to St Helier before being admitted to hospital with injuries to her head and leg. She was later discharged, and her injuries were described as not serious.

## Leaving the Scene: A Serious Matter

While it is fortunate that the cyclist’s injuries were not life-threatening, the circumstances surrounding the departure of the vehicle are troubling. Failing to stop and exchange details after a road collision is a criminal offence, and the fact that five individuals were present in the car makes it all the more remarkable that not one of them apparently saw fit to remain and assist.

The cyclist, wearing a high visibility jacket, had done everything right to make herself visible on the road. That the driver and passengers chose to leave her to walk miles to hospital, injured and alone, is the kind of behaviour that rightly draws the attention of police.

## Police Appeal for Information

Jersey Police are appealing for witnesses who may have been in the area of La Vallee de St Pierre on the evening of 30 September. In particular, they are asking anyone with doorbell camera or dash camera footage that might have captured the incident or the vehicle to come forward.

Anyone with information can contact police directly on 612612. Those who wish to remain anonymous can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, or submit information via the anonymous online form at Crimestoppers-uk.org.

## The NSFW Perspective

A woman in a high-vis jacket, struck by a car carrying five people, left to walk to hospital on her own. Whatever the circumstances, that is not the behaviour of good neighbours, and it is hard to imagine any of those five individuals feeling particularly proud of their evening’s work. Jersey is a small island, and as locals well know, it has a long memory. If you were in that black Fiat Panda on the night of 30 September, the sensible course of action is fairly obvious. The police number is 612612, and the anonymous option is always available.
